Bend Food Trucks: A Casual Vibe

As in most cities, Bend locals love their food. They also enjoy craft beer, dogs, and hanging outside. The result is a diverse array of food truck lots peppered around town.

Food truck lots in Bend are a great way for people to enjoy a variety of options instead of solo food trucks. Also, up and coming Bend food trucks have a better chance of becoming known.

Shimshon at the Grove
Us enjoying Shimshon at the Grove.

Food Trucks are also great options if you’re feeling more casual than one of the great sit down restaurants in Bend.

Most of the food truck lots in Bend also have a taphouse, which serve beer from one of the many famed Bend Breweries. Also, because of the dry climate in Bend, there is always outdoor seating

When the temperatures dip after sunset, there are usually heaters and firepits, so you can still hang out outdoors. In the winter, when it’s too cold outside (even with heaters), cozy indoor seating is also standard at many of the food cart lots.

As a general trend, dogs and kids are typically welcome. Overall, Bend is a city with lots of young and active people and families. Food truck lots are great spaces for all types of people to gather and socialize.

Our favorite food cart at the Podski Lot is Toasty, a vegan-inspired Mexican food cart. We are obsessed with their vegan crunch wrap.

The Grove: Indoor Food Hall

The Grove is not a proper food truck lot, but rather an indoor food hall. That said, don’t think about mediocre mall food. Rather, the Grove is new in 2023 and quite fancy feeling.

We included it here because there are lots of high-quality food options, including Shimshon (the second location of one of our favorite food trucks at the Midtown Yacht Club), ThAiPAS (Thai street food), and Elly’s Ice Cream.

The Grove in Bend
The family-friendly Grove in northwest Bend.

Of course, everywhere there is food in Bend there is also a taphouse! There is also a small market. Overall, the Grove is especially great for colder weather, as it is indoors.

The Grove is also great for families with kids, as it is more casual than a sit down restaurant and has lots of food options.

Tips for Enjoying Food Bend Food Trucks

Bend food truck lots are great places to gather and socialize. Whether you want to enjoy an affordable date night with your partner or meet new people, there is no shortage of conversation starters in a food truck lot.

That said, it is helpful to keep some things in mind if you are planning to visit food truck lots in Bend.

Plan ahead

Depending on the season or time of day, food carts may not be open, outdoor seating may be too chilly, and indoor seating may be crowded. The high desert climate in Bend can mean super hot summer days, and frigid nights. Even summer nights can be cold, so bring enough clothes.

Check the hours of the taphouse or food cart you want to attend. During weekends or other popular hours, seating may be full. Usually, this is not an issue, but summer can be crowded.

Look for live music

Lots of the food truck lots mentioned in this article have live music. Check the taphouse website for a list of upcoming events. Live music is so fun and curates a great vibe during the warmer months.

Don’t be afraid to be productive

For the remote workers out there, food truck lots and tap houses can be great work environments. That is if you enjoy working in public places. On any given weekday, you’ll see people typing away on their laptops enjoying some food truck grub and a pint of beer.

Bring a deck of cards or a board game

Food truck lots and tap houses are perfect for meeting up with friends and playing some games. We recently attended a puzzle challenge put on by some friends at “On Tap”. It was so fun!

Conclusion

Whether you are a local or a visitor, have a family or are single and ready to mingle, a meat eater or vegetarian/vegan, there is a Bend food truck with your name on it.
