Suttle Lodge is a popular destination on a medium sized lake with a restaurant and lake recreation rentals. Accommodation includes single rooms and a variety of cabins.
Suttle Lake is generally less busy than Elk Lake and it is smaller as well. Still, there are great opportunities for swimming, paddling, and hiking. However, it is 45 minutes from Bend.

The Camp RV Park in Bend offers a unique accommodation experience. Located close to downtown, this RV park provides easy access to the great dining and entertainment in Bend. The park has a bit of a history, as it sits on the land where one of Bend’s first RV parks opened in the 1950s.
With plenty of RV pads available, visitors can choose from a variety of sites, each with full hookups. You can also stay in one of their clean vintage RVs or even a tiny house. Each RV is unique and they are all super cute.
Sun Outdoors Bend – Best for Amenities
Another great RV park is Sun Outdoors. This park offers spacious, full hookup sites at a reasonable rate. They are located in south Bend just a few minutes drive from downtown.
There are also a number of amenities including showers, a fitness center, a tennis court, and on-site storage. Overall, Sun Outdoors is a pleasant and reputable RV park in Bend.
Top Camping Near Bend
Camping is popular in central Oregon. There are dozens of great campgrounds near Bend within an hour or two drive. These are some of the best!

Tumalo State Park – Closest to Town
The closest campground to Bend is Tumalo State Park, just 15 minutes outside of town. One of the great things about Bend is how easy it is to get out into nature and Tumalo State Park is a great example of that.
This highly rated campground is clean and welcoming. Bring your tent or RV or stay in a yurt. It is located right by the Deschutes River which makes for some excellent walks and places to take a dip.
Paulina Lake – Best Lakeside Camping
Paulina Lake is a beautiful and expansive lake located within the Newberry National Monument, about 45 minutes south of Bend. It is an active volcano, but don’t let that scare you away! There is plenty to see and do here, with lots of accommodation: three campgrounds, a day use area, a boat launch, and a lodge.
The three campgrounds are: Little Crater Campground, Paulina Lake Campground, and Newberry Group Campground. Many campsites are super close to the water and offer excellent views of the lake and surrounding topography. There are also lots of day hikes to explore. Did we mention there are hot springs dug into the lakeshore that you can hike (or paddle) to!
Lava Lake Campground – Best for Mountain Views
Lava Lake is a relatively large lake on the Cascade Lakes Highway that has amazing views of the surrounding mountains. At Lava Lake, there is a campground, boating site, and small RV resort complete with a grocery store and tackle shop, which is great when you inevitably forget something!
In addition to great views, a large draw of Lava Lake is fishing. Motorized boats are allowed which may or may not be a plus, depending on what you’re looking for. There is also a boat launch and a dock.
Short Term House Rentals in Bend
Bend is a popular tourism destination and short-term house rentals have become available in recent years. So much so, in fact, that it is difficult to get a short-term rental permit for Bend residence. That said, there are no shortage of great options on Airbnb, VRBO, and other short term home rental sites.

Yes! Of all the places to stay in Bend, there is just one hostel called Bunk+Brew. It has a good vibe and is known for its food trucks and live music events. While we have never stayed there ourselves, we have been for live music and had a great time! We have met people who have stayed there and had only positive things to say.
